"little" Sue's Birthday!
Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 6:55 AM
Saturday March 12
Met Sue, family, and friends out at Champps -Eastview Mall.
Visited with everyone, had some apps, opened presents...
oh, on Sue's invitation she wrote over and over
no gifts no gifts no gifts no gifts...
so, as her "topper" present I wrapped up a post it note under the tissue paper inside the box that read "no gift" with a smilie sticker.
:P
That was funny...
:)
After 30, all we want to do is to feel young...so I got Sue a cute little top from Charlotte Russe with some matching really long earings, and some novelty pins - i.e. 90% angel, vicious, heartbreaker...etc.
Her card had 2 pictures of her with her dog (Weimeraner) Baxter from Halloween. A kissy one, and a hugging one w/ pumpkins...really cute.
Happy Bday Sue!!
She becomes more happy and beautiful every year.

My Birthday weekend
Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 10:00 AM
Friday March, 4th.
Anxiously awaited the arrival of my friend Mickie Friday night. Freshly baked cookies were cooling in the kitchen, Buds and I were curled up on the couch.
The doorbell rang and our weekend began.
(Look at this basket she brought me !)
wow!
:)

We first headed to Lolas for catch up time. Relaxed candle glowing atmosphere as we sipped our Rieslings telling stories.

Headed back home around 1 am after sitting in the car talking too...(bob shaking head not understanding girl talk)
:)
and crawled into bed. We finally finished painting our spare room...it's a nice warm toffee color. I love it! Buds couldn't decide where to sleep that night. I remember hearing him shuffle back and forth between rooms - sharing his time.
:)
Slept in and made my way down to start breakfast.
Scrambled egg beaters with white cheddar cheese for Mick, buckwheat pancakes, and a fruit salad of melon, strawberries, and blueberries...all fresh.
mmmmm.
Oh, and some turkey sausage too...and plenty o' tea to go around.
(I haven't mentioned it yet, but I was feeling pretty under the weather all weekend)
Anyways...Bob and Mick argued over what consists of "crust" again...he won't give that up...and we talked about what we were thinking of doing during the day.
We decided to try painting pottery. Something Mickie has done a few times, and finds it relaxing and fun. We have a place like that here, so we tried it out.
Bisque and Brush
We picked out a cute little pot with a lid, and sat down to some idea books.

I should have realized to keep it simple, but got carried away.
Mickie's is perfect - I can't wait to see it..we have to wait a week to pick it up.
Mine is supposed to be a pattern of branches w/ a single leaf ...the experience was fun and something new, so no matter how it turns out, it was the event that I'll remember.
From here, we headed out for dinner - it was a little early, but perfect timing or we would of had to wait a long time for seating.
We tried outBazil - somewhere I've always wanted to try, so we're doing something new again.

Really good dinner for both of us. Mick had Penne Vodka, and I had my traditional treat, Chicken Parm w/ angel hair..mmmmm.
We had such a nice day. It was relaxed...we both thought it felt like she lived here, and we were just hanging out for the day together..since nothing was really planned...
She had written "Birthday Girl" on the paper table cloth next to me w/ an arrow earlier in the evening. I thought my napkin covered it up, but after dinner, our waiter came out with a small dish of icecream w/ a candle in it. SO sweet, and perfect. No singing, just subtle.

My wish was for Carrie this year; my bud that I miss dearly.
So, we had some of the icecream, and then headed out...huge crowd in the waiting room..we timed it perfectly. I love that.
:)
We headed home to get ready. I planned on meeting my friends out at Javas Cafe for an evening of cake and fun.
Originally, I was just planning on ordering a cake to bring, but Shannon scolded me later when she found out, and let me know she wanted to do it.
Myself, Heim, and Bob arrived to see Shannon setting out not just one, but TWO cakes from Cheesy Eddies!
Wow...and she had rose petals around them - she's amazing...my Shannon.

Once everyone was there (Susan and Jim, Shannon, Sue, Mickie, myself, and Bob)
we found ourselves playing musical chairs... trying to pick out the best place to sit... window seat booth or pulling together 3 little tables...
It was funny - we finally decided on the more open 3 little tables, got ourselves something to drink...I stuck with tea - still under the weather - and sat down for stories, and casual this and that stuff. I remember at one point just sitting there looking around at everyone...how lucky I am.

A birthday is very humbling. Everyone's there to celebrate YOU. Whether you think it's worth it or not, they're there...these people who stand by you and are a part of you.
It's overwhelming really.
It didn't take long before everyone wanted to cut into the 2 cakes - so the candles were lit, the birthday song came out - and my wish was upon me before I knew it. I wished for Carrie again - she is with me in spirit as I make my wish, and I'm picturing her smiling back at me.
Then the clapping, and everyone's relieved we can start cutting into the cake.
mmmmmmm chocolate torte cake, and their famous carrot cake - cream cheese frosting! mmmmm
THANK YOU SHANNON! She totally spoiled us.
:)
Once the belt buckles were released ;) we started in on the gifts.
Wow.
Susan and Jim started by handing me a huge bouquet of long stemmed white (mums?) I think...they were incredible, and sweet smelling.

Susan's wrapping is always evident of care and patience. She puts such detail into the ribbons, and presentation...as is true of everything she does.
I opened a set of gorgeous photobooks, a set of ceramic vases made by an artist in their building (similar to ones I'm always admiring that they have), and a collar for Buddy - they're called Martingales - She's been making little jackets, and collars for her Italian Greyhound dogs (I'll show pictures of them later) ...I've been admiring them for weeks, and to get one for Buddy was so great. It's got a cute buckle in the front, and is just perfect for him. He'll be dashing in it...the talk of the dog park.
:)
Thank you guys!
Sue made me (sewed) an oriental carry bag and stuffed a bunch of goodies in there to open

...gum, sunglasses, keychain, earings to name a few...and a G.C. to Old Navy too! I can't believe she sewed that... Sewing is one thing I do want to try sometime...there's so much you can do w/ that knowledge. Thank you Sue - I love it! The bag had a print w/ butterflies which I love, and all the stuff packed inside are things about me...very neat.
Shannon made me this completely amazing card -

she's so good with the art of collage - there's really no limit to what she can do. There are 3 pages inside the card, and 2 of them have a
peek-a-boo picture of Jake Gyllenhal. LOL...that was very funny.
She put a note tucked into the back of the card that we're going on a dinner and movie date sometime soon..
dim sum, and movie to be announced later.
Thanks sweetie!
Mick and Bob are giving me their gifts on Sunday.
We finished up - it was getting close to 10pm, and the crowds were piling in... we were thinking of going out, but then we were all so interested in seeing Susan's outfits she'd made for her dogs that we decided to hang out over at their place. I've been wanting Mickie to see their loft - I always talk about it and how they've decorated it.
Shannon had some schoolwork to do so she headed out after many hugs and thanks from me...
:)
The rest of us headed over to Susan and Jims for wine and visiting.
Though I'm used to it, it's always fun going in there as you're greeted by 4 small "Iggys" pouncing up and down trying to say hello...they're all so cute. There's Sadie (Sades), Delila (D), Olivia (O), and Grace (Gracie - my personal favorite) Sades is the sweetest thing though and Susan's favorite -
This is Sadie

This is Grace - my favorite

Mickie and Sue had fun getting to know all of them and saying hello...Susan got out all the clothes she'd been working on ... from a bumblebee coat, to a "poodle" skirt gone Iggy, to Martingales (collars). Tons of different designs..we played dress up with the dogs as they modeled.
:)

We visited til about 1am

and then said our goodbyes

and headed home. I was really run down by this point...
:(
Tried staying up with Heim at home on the couch to watch Garden State, but I couldn't make it. (Bob copied it Sunday for her so she could bring it home to watch anytime - I love that movie and wanted her to see it).

Anyways - up again Sunday - made breakfast again, and then Mick and I headed out toStarry Nites Cafe to talk about a book project we're trying to start up. It was a gloomy Sunday, but you'd never know it inside. I couldn't be happier sitting there talking with her, sipping my (cajillionth cup of) tea , and gazing out the window full of thoughts and ideas.

I wish we could do that more often together...just hang.

We headed over to the The Little Theatre after that to catch a matinee..."Finding Neverland"
One for Johnny Depp please.
:)

It was a really sweet movie...and it went along with what we'd been talking about earlier...screenplays, writing, imagination...Everything felt complete as we headed home.
We heated up our leftovers from the Bazil dinner the night before, and then packed her up to go.
:(
Sent her home with some goodies...and a copy of the picture of us with Carrie from Greek Peak - earlier in the blog - symbolically we'd be watching over her as she drove home.
Everything was perfect - thank you Heim for visiting....
After she left, I moped upstairs and looked in the room she was staying in...I could still picture her strawberry blonde hair flowing over the comforter asleep with Buds curled up next to her...waking up to me with a smile...
:)
Bye Heim.

About 2 hrs. later, Bob and I headed over to his mom's for a family dinner/get together for my birthday. Very sweet of her and everyone. His family is wonderful, and I'm very lucky to be a part of it.

Monday March 7th - My actual Birthday.
I was home sick
:(
I watched Garden State which was perfect as I lied there in my somewhat post Nyquil state - and moped around with tissues and cough drops in hand...
The mail came in the afternoon, and I was surprised by a big package from Carrie, and a few more birthday cards including one from my dad!
My gloomy mood was instantly saved as I read the cards, and opened the package.
Carrie stuffed lots of good for me goodies and what nots...I saved the wrapped things for later when Bob got home. Her card was the sweetest thing and I miss her. My dad's card was beautiful and I'm anxious to spend time with him again soon.
Bob brought home Mexican because I figured it would be the only thing I could taste. It was still even difficult to taste it, I was so stuffed up.
:(
But thanks Bob for my bday dinner.
:)
I opened Care's presents, my mom's and Bob's when he got home....wow...
Beautiful glass neckace from mom, peter and amanda and lots-o-scrapping stuff too - Bob got me a new edition to my sex in the city collection, a G.C. to get a new cd, and a new cd visor for my car that holds more - perfect!
Care sent me gorgeous DAISIES to work to brighten my day, and lots of days after...they're perfectly Carrie...a bright yellow pail holds them, and they smile at me every day.

See Care - there you are right next to them on the swing ride!
:)
It's over a week later, and they're still in full bloom - I get to come in to them every day - I love them, and I love you bud.
Thank you!

Her package had a pair of really cute earings, some workout socks, this great idea of a cake cookbook - where you take a regular box cake, but do stuff to it in these recipes to make them different - great idea! Thanks Bud - I'm looking at the daisies as I type this too...
:)
I had a great birthday weekend, and more than anything else I am so thankful for all the love in my life. I'm very very lucky.
***************
New Edition!
My co-workers (forgot) my bday, and I came into this today - Friday - my office was decorated to the M.A.X. They presented a card, sang to me, and brought cake in...very very sweet...
I celebrate everyone's bdays here by decorating for them the night before their bday, and then bringing in bday cupcakes w/ a photoshop funny card that everyone signs...so everyone felt bad mine was forgotten for all the times I celebrate everyone elses..
This means so much to me - I love that they decorated!
:)

Tubing in the backyard
Wednesday, March 2, 2005, 8:06 AM
We have a little hill in our backyard so we tube back there - it's fun!
Buddy is hilarious - he runs after us, and then jumps all over us at the bottom of the hill...it's hysterical.
Here's Bob just about to go down the hill...
gooooooooo Bob!
:)
